The Kim Kardashi-tan!

The Kim Kardashi-tan!

So I finally got my hands on some of Kim K’s fave, the Vita Liberata pHenomenal 2-3 Week Tan. It promises ground breaking effects, being both moisturising and longer lasting than competitors (if my Italian is right,’Vita Liberata’ translates as ‘Carefree Life’ so maybe it’s promising me endless happiness too?!)

Having tested it, I can happily report that it deserves the hype.

Now, I’m not a frequent tanner as I get frustrated with all that regular topping up. The fact, then, that this actually lasts longer is a huge benefit. It’s also a natural colour, plus I don’t have those usual dry areas on my shins and feet that used to need extra moisturising.

Here’s the lowdown:
Use for 3 consecutive days, showering as normal but avoiding soap. If you’re using a darker shade on a fair skin then my advice is to apply before going to bed, then shower off in the morning. If the application is too strong then at least you can temper it before you hit the office!

Why not get hold of a bottle at

Happy tanning! (and whilst you’re at it, why not check out my You Tube guide to applying fake tan?)

Body Shop BB Cream

Body Shop’s BB cream is a lightweight, white cream that tones with your skin on application to give a nude, dewy finish.

At £12.00 (available in four shades) this nourishing and flattering make up is a good buy.

That said, it’s not suitable if you’re looking for something with coverage. BB creams are primarily complexion enhancers.

Here’s a snap of me, squinting in the winter sunlight, with nothing on but the Body Shop BB cream in 03.

Make up for the morning after!

It’s well into party season now and it may be taking its toll! Here are a few of my tricks to try and ‘get away with it’!

Products used:
Simple cleansing wipes
Clinique Dramatically Different moisturiser
Origins Quick Hide concealer
Smash Box eye primer
Clinique Repair Wear

Bin the pencil sharpener!

Make-up artists love it when products get truly innovative. At yesterday’s Smashbox ‘Pro Session’, a buzz went around the room when Lori Taylor (Smashbox Cosmetics Pro Lead Artist) introduced us to their latest goundbreaker: the Always Sharp Waterproof Kôhl Liner.

It sharpens in the lid by moulding the tip each time it’s twisted – no pencil sharpener needed! The result? Precision with ease. What’s not to love?

Kate Mara ‘House Of Cards’

As the temperatures plummeted to below freezing in London, Kate Mara shone on the red carpet for the ‘House Of Cards’ Premiere.

She opened the 2013 premiere season in a Spring Christian Dior bright yellow dress, accessorised with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, a Gilan ring, and a Plukka necklace.

A stripped back make-up for the red carpet is brave, but Kate’s beautiful fresh complexion stunned me when I first met her so I had no intention of losing that in heavy make-up.

So after applying the lightest of bases I emphasised her eyes with black eye pencil and brightened them with Spring/Summers new hot colour – copper. Lips and cheeks were flushed in naked taupe tones.

For her hair, I groomed it into a sharp side parting (a style she favours in the new tv series) then tied it into a low-slung pony tail and textured the locks into beautiful curls.

We even got into the pages of the super-cool mag Nylon with this look!

House of Cards is a political thriller available on Netflix from 1st Feb.

It’s a tv series that’s not available on TV and all 13 episodes can be downloaded immediately. Heaven for those of us who love to indulge in box sets and watch a series at our leisure.

It stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright alongside Kate and is directed by David Fincher – we’re talking ‘Fight Club’ (one of my all time fav films), Madonna’s ‘Vogue’ video & ‘The Social Network’

That’s one hell of a reason to join Netflix!

Bond Girl Bérénice Marlohe

It seems like everyone’s seen Skyfall. Smashing records like they were going out of fashion, it’s now 2012′s biggest film. So it makes me really chuffed to think that I was there right at the start. Well, it was actually even BEFORE the start!

It was at last November’s swanky press launch, before director Sam Mendes had even shot a second of footage, that it all began. The event was held to announce the cast, the crew and the name of the 007′s 50th anniversary outing and I was asked to work with the actress who would play the latest in a long line of iconic Bond girls, Bérénice Marlohe. As this was her unveiling to the world, I knew she had to look special.

Creating those first images was a total pleasure. Bérénice is brave and experimental with her make-up – something I always like. Since that launch we’ve worked together several times, on everything from magazine shoots to press junkets. On one such junket she even asked me to give her some sexy blood red eyeshadow. I told you she was brave!

So as Bérénice heads effortlessly towards superstardom, I thought I’d share a couple of looks that I created for her. Enjoy!
After treating the skin with Origins Brighter By Nature serum I used MAC Prep And Prime base on the eyes (this is a strong look and I wanted it to stay put – hence the base).
I then worked with MAC Carbon and Vibrant Grape eyeshadows. Be careful though – purples and blacks are a recipe for that unwanted ‘black eye’ look so make sure you’re colour balancing and shaping nicely. Get it right and you’ll get that dramatic look that Bond girls are so famous for.
Next I put a matt black eyeliner (Armani Maestro) into the lash lines, followed by a strip of lashes and coatings of L’Oreal telescopic mascara. Brows were very definite in this look too. I emphasised them using Estée Lauder Automatic Eye Duo in Soft Black. Again, it’s not a look for the faint-hearted but since ‘girly’ wasn’t what we were aiming for, we really went for it!
After the eyes were painted I started creating the face canvas. First up, YSL’s Teint Radiance  foundation went on the face. Cheeks were then sculptured using  L’Oreal Paris True Match Blusher in Nude Brown. Finally, I slicked the lips with a mix of Clinique Chubby Sticks  in Woppin’ Watermelon and Mighty Mimosa.
For this look I used Bobbi Brown eyeshadows in Dark Chocolate, Mahogany and Smoke going into the black eyeliner. It’s the layering up of tones that creates that intense  look in the eye. Cheek highlight was emphasised with the Benefit Classic High Beam and the lips were neutralised with Clinique Chubby Stick in Heaping Hazelnut.
I hope you like!
